HOME OF LA TROYA (HOLT) is probably the best fun club night out in Ibiza. It feels like the 'HOLT' has been around for ever, when in fact it has been over 14 years in one guise or another.
Brasilio de Olivera started the parties at Privilege (Ku) before moving to Amnesia, and last year over to SPACE. With subtle changes in name as the moves progressed, HOLT has the deserved reputation for being the best night out on the island, with a different theme every week, Brasilio has created more than 1000 parties in all. All of them open and welcoming to everyone, but, if your imagination does not stretch much further than a club filled with over developed, steroidal middle aged queens - don't go - stick to the clubs in Vauxhall in London.
Home of La Troya is one of the few clubs worth paying to get into, with the iconic figure of Baby Marcelo fronting the fabulous La Troya dancers and performers and last but by no means least, DJ Oliver (www.djoliver.com) who actually does play his own unique brand of music well into the early hours of Thursday morning. If you are a first timer, give it an hour or so to get into the music, as fun as the party is, it does not rely on churning out Kylie and ABBA for the atmosphere. What is played at the club works so very well against the general madness of the La Troya Party in general.
HOLT in all of its guises, has always been popular with the locals, not just the gay ones, and is constantly touring Europe and occasionally ventures out around the rest of the globe.
The move to SPACE has seen Home Of La Troya become one of the most successful independent party nights on the island .
In 2007 the parties excelled themselves, with SPACE often filling before the parade arrived from Ibiza town. So expect free entries to be harder to come by, and make friends at the bars, as it may well be still worth asking at the bars if they have any passes. Bars J.J. Cheri, and Soap always do their best to look after regular visitors. Things get kicking at Home Of La Troya after 3am, but don't worry if you are not there before 4am as things really get bouncing along quite nicely with Baby Marcelo and his live performance, in the 'old terrace'. The larger main room is generally left for all of you wanting to gently bounce around in your own little world, offerning the opportunity to be just a touch too glamorous.
Home of La Troya at SPACE was my only weekly night out last year - (I am too old to recover in time to do anything else) but it was well worth every minute spent there. The biggest party of the year is BRASIL night (in August), the silliest is possibly the PSYCO night, and you are actively encouraged to make the effort and dress up and joijn in. The theme for the following weeks party is now advertised in the club the wek before, and on the HOLT web site. (Just taking your shirt off to display the pair of sweaty tits that you have been working on for the past year is just not enough!) - La Cucana (The 'Mr Ben' shop for those of you old enough) will see you right for any party.
