CRIME AND SAFETY
There is little crime in Ibiza; what there is tends to be petty and is usually found early or late season. Ibiza is, in the circumstances very safe. In fact, officially the safest place to holiday in Spain.
It is easy to avoid petty crime, if it does happen to you, don't let it ruin your holiday.
Almost all the seasonal staff in Ibiza, as well as some of the locals, are as prone to becoming targets of the opportunist thief, as any visitor (seasoned or first-time).
The 'crims' tend to be smack addicts looking for anything they can sell for a few 'bob' for their next fix.
Book accommodation with a safe, or a safety-deposit facility, and make sure you use it. If you need to take your passport out with you for any reason, keep it safely about your person (down your knickers if you have to).
Only take out the cards and cash that you will need. DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING THAT YOU WOULD NOT LIKE TO LOSE INTO THE DARK ROOMS. (Dark rooms see more theft than blow jobs, your wallet will go quicker than your inhibitions.)
If you are unlucky enough to lose anything, the only thing you can do is report it to the Police so you can make a claim from the insurance company when you get home. See your representative if you have one, for help making the reports, etc. (that is what they are paid for). If you don't have a rep, and flew in on a charter, ask one of that airline's reps for help. Most reps will be courteous enough to provide directions to the Police station, and an idea of what to do once you get there.
The main Police station (Comisaria Policia) is on the Avenida de la Pau (not far from McDonald's in Figueretes). There are also local Police stations dotted around the island, but these will not be able to provide you with the necessary paperwork for an insurance claim. They will, however, point you in the right direction. Once you have done the Police report, get on with your holiday.
Remember the insurance company will require a Police report to even consider paying out. If your property was lost or damaged by an airline, you will need an official report from the baggage handlers dealing with your flight in the airport (get this BEFORE you leave the airport).
Do not become a criminal yourself: Drugs are illegal in Spain, so is 'driving while under the influence'. If you do carry recreational drugs on your person, do not carry more than would be defendable as being 'for your own use', that way you may be lucky and get off with a caution. Never carry drugs for friends, you may well be prosecuted as a dealer.
