ALTERNATIVES
Should you choose to drive, cycle, take the train or go for a very long walk, you will eventually end up on one of the ferries over from the mainland. - Unless you walked all of that way just to fly the last 20 minutes or so.
Ferries run from Ibiza to Barcelona, Palma, Valencia, Denia and Alicante to Ibiza, and the service has improved dramatically over the past couple of years.
The ferries are frequent, reliable (in calm weather - be aware! ) and can be bloody good fun if you are travelling with friends. They older ferries can also be noisy and occasionally have a distinct aroma.
More and more destinations are being served by the fast ferry services. (See the operators web sites for current routes) - Oddly, some ferry operators only sell tickets through agents, not directly.
The slow ferries are cheaper, but much much slower. Fast ferries run to Barcelona in about 4 hours, Allacante or Denia in 2 hours. The Slow ferry to Barcelona is around 10 hours, and runs overnight.
Single journeys are, as you would expect if you are as cynical as me, about the same price of a return.
If you are driving down, remember that the journey back can be hellish, depressing and feel like it is taking weeks and weeks....
The only problem I have ever had driving down from the UK to Ibiza is FRANCE: Well Paris to be fair. Basically you can not avoid it and it is bloody awful. To ease the pain of the traffic jams, road works and poor road signs, and Parisian drivers, we sit back in the slow lane and watch the French traffic police swerving around speeding French registered cars trying to find a foreign registered car to stop and fine for for speeding. (It is not an urban myth... Try it. They have no shame at all.) So carry enough cash to pay you inevitable speeding fine.
If travelling to the UK, cut our France all together, and take the ferry from Bilbao.
Favourite route from the UK, take the Euro tunnel, drive down the left hand side of France to Beritz (a fab town for an overnight), then straight down to Denia. Cutting out Paris altogether - far more civilised.
Having done the drive down a few times, once you have added up the cost of ferries, road tolls, accommodation etc., it makes no difference at all which route/ ferries or hotels you take. All routs work out at just about the same total cost.

Any travel agent will book crossings for you, and they need not be too expensive if booked in advance. At the moment, the Acconia website (one of the main ferry operators) starts off great, then disintegrates in to an incomprehensible shambles... I have never managed to book a ticket on it.
The slow ferries look like the one just above, the one at the top of the page is a little more expensive...
Finally, to end with a rant, one of the largest ferry ticket offices in Ibiza port is cram packed full of staff. Does anyone know what they do? - As they will not sell you a ticket, but instead give you a telephone number to call. Which is one of the joys of 'Ibiza Fucking Island' .
