PACKAGE HOLIDAYS
These pages are based on UK purchases, but European packages all adhere to similar if not the same principals and practices. Anyone can book a package holiday, providing you have the required visa (if any) to enter the UK and Spain.
Many are opting to build their own package, rather than take a brochure holiday - if you want to do something a little special, contact eventosgay.com and let them arrange a dream villa holiday for you, they can provide luxury villas, transfers car hire and VIP club access.
Generally package holidays can provide good value for money, excellent service and reduce the hassle of arranging a holiday.
It is possible to enjoy two package holidays (on special offer) for the price of arranging one independently. But at the height of the season, it may be cheaper to book independently.
Whether you book with a straight or gay company, you will usually be using similar, if not the same flights and accommodation.
Gay companies try to ensure that you will be near the gay resort, and/or in gay accommodation, and hopefully that the companies they use really are gay-friendly.
The services of a gay representative can be invaluable. The reps attitude/presence can range from unobtrusive to 'in your face' dependant on their prevailing income, social habits and the last time they read 'Is harry on the boat?'
Most holiday companies sell flights only, though some of the UK gay companies appear more keen on this business than others.
Given the volatile nature of gay friendships, and unfortunately health (which has become a fundamental issue in gay life) it is worth been aware of the following:
The European Charter for air travellers states that you can change the name of the person travelling on a flight/package holiday (you may see posters displayed in most airports, and occasionally the UK) as long as you do not agree to a contract that states otherwise.
If tickets have not yet being issued, some holiday companies will change names for you free of charge. Some will make a 'small administration charge' no matter what, some, in good old 'rip off' style, will insist that you have cancelled your original booking, and that you must make a new one and rely on the insurance policy for a refund. This is unnecessary bollocks.
Personal experience has proven that persuading an insurance company to pay out for a +ve traveller who was unfit to travel, is much more aggravation than changing the name on the ticket.
Why do the booking conditions of some gay companies appear to ignore the real issues facing gay travellers, when the European guidelines expect a company to exchange tickets from one customer to another if requested.
If you can answer this or any other question perplexing us get in touch and let us know, and at least check the booking conditions before you pay.
